About the provider
Natia Esiashvili, MD, serves as Chief Quality Officer in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine. A board certified radiation oncologist, Dr. Esiashvili specializes in the treatment of complex pediatric cancers and hematological malignancies in adults, and sees patients at Winship Cancer Institute and Emory Proton Therapy Center. In addition, Dr. Esiashvili is involved in using radiotherapy as a component of the bone marrow transplantation program. She is also co-leader of the Young Adult Cancer Survivorship Program at Winship.
Dr. Esiashvili serves as president of the Paediatric Radiation Oncology Society where she also served on an executive committee leading programs for low- and middle-income countries worldwide. As a field expert, she has spoken at a number of national and international conferences and participated in committees and working groups charged with developing treatment guidelines, clinical trials and late effects screening guidelines.
Dr. Esiashvili is a member of the Cancer Prevention and Control research program at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. Additionally, she holds memberships with the American Society of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American College of Radiology, Children’s Oncology Group, and Pediatric Radiation Oncology Society, among others.
Education
Dr. Esiashvili earned her MD from Tbilisi State Medical University in her home country, the Republic of Georgia. She completed her residency in radiation oncology at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta where she served as chief resident.
Research
Dr. Esiasvhili’s research tracks the clinical outcomes of children treated with modern radiotherapy techniques such as intensity-modulated radiation therapy and frameless radiosurgery. She helped design radiotherapy guidelines for several clinical trials for the Children’s Oncology Group. As a member of the Children’s Oncology Group Late Effects Guidelines Task Force, she collaborates with clinical investigators across the country to develop evidence-based screening and follow-up guidelines for survivors of childhood tumors. Dr. Esiashvili received a grant for researching long-term follow-up care in young adult cancer survivors and established the first transitional clinic for survivors of childhood malignancies in Georgia.
Publications
Dr. Esiashvili serves as a manuscript reviewer for the International Journal of Radiation Oncology and has published several journal articles and book chapters.
Awards
Dr. Esiashvili has received various awards for her work in radiation oncology as well as spoken at a number of national and international conferences. She was listed in Atlanta Magazine’s “Top Doctors” issue in 2017, 2018 and 2020.
